You can make a slight ledge enough to carry small items comfortably throughout the length, keeping a ledge means you have made the provision of keeping things, it is not necessary to keep things there actually. Make sure you make the ledge at least 2-3 feet above the ground; lower ledge will not make it possible for you to keep furniture next to the wall.
